Why Intuitive Eating Just Makes Sense

It all starts with a decision to be self-compassionate. Food and eating are part of this puzzle and having self-compassion is a big part of Intuitive Eating.

I don't know about you, but I am leaning into self-compassion these days. I'm realizing that I can't control everything and I need to give myself a break. As a recovering perfectionist, I am loving this!

The simple self-care lists I have written each month this year have really helped! Self-care this season has been exactly what I needed.

Here are some fun things that have been happening lately:

  • it's soup season - French onion with a grilled cheese, butternut squash with crusty sourdough, and dumpling soup with spinach and mushroom!

  • getting back to a yoga practice - this has been really instrumental to getting out of work mode and coming home and actually staying away from the computer for the evening

  • fall scented wax melts

  • the down comforter being back on the bed!

  • naps, cats, coordinating sweatsuits - ideally all 3 together

  • baking cookies with the hubs - I've been craving chocolate chip cookies without the chocolate chips, and ones with M&Ms

Reasons why intuitive eating just makes sense here: 1. I had brain space to do and think about all these things instead of what I should or should not be eating. 2. We baked cookies because we felt like it and without the intention of giving them all away, or changing all the ingredients to 'healthify' them. We had fun, ate some, and were done! Packed them way for another time without a second thought. Tell me:

Are you able to have fun with food on any given day? If not, why do you think that is?

Remember to be compassionate with yourself, there isn't a right or wrong answer. It just is. ❤️

Here is an amazing group from Dr. Kristin Neff and colleagues that you can join - for free! - to honor your self-compassion. If you are someone who struggles with self-compassion, try it out! Even if you just look around, it's very helpful to be in community with others.
